Innovate4Agriculture – A challenge organized by UNCDF to digitize the agriculture sector

by:

In countries like Uganda, where the agriculture sector employs over 70 percent of the total population, digitizing agriculture is an opportunity for enhanced productivity, market access, and financial inclusion for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses.

Partnering with The Innovation Village, Mukwano Industries, and some other stakeholders, UNCDF organized the Innovate4Agriculture challenge bringing together actors from the agriculture sector and digital innovators to address the constraints in adopting digital solutions in agriculture.

Of the 50 startups that applied for the challenge, three companies, Oriems Cloud, Spark Agro Initiatives, and Hamwe, were selected through a rigorous process that comprised a boot camp, an accelerator program, and a pilot of the winning solutions.

This project is part of UNCDF’s broader digital strategy to develop and refine digital solutions geared towards supporting the youths to innovate and develop scalable solutions in various sectors, increasing job creation.
