Amua Accelerator is promoting innovative solutions for the disabled

Innovative services and products are being created to alleviate some of the challenges that come with being physically disabled in today’s society.

Amua Accelerator is a Tanzanian platform trying to improve the quality of life of people with physical disabilities by promoting innovative solutions. The accelerator is a six-month mentorship-driven project implemented by a collaboration between United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) and Sahara Ventures.

Amua Accelerator focuses on identifying, supporting, and scaling innovative, inclusive solutions aimed at addressing challenges encountered by people with disabilities. In 2020, Amua Accelerator 2.0 was organized to accelerate startups with solutions to address sexual and reproductive health (SRH) among the disabled.

One of the teams at Amua Accelerator 2.0 developed OnaPlus, a mobile application increasing access to information for people with visual impairment. OnaPlus supports visually impaired people to access SRH information through speech, connects them directly with health experts, and provides them with directions to health centers for their visitations.
